ABOUT US

Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India has established Ministry of Human Resource Development’s Innovation Cell (MIC) to facilitate the culture of systematic Innovation amongst all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The Basic mandate of MIC is to encourage, inspire and nurture the students in formative years to translate their ideas into minimum viable product. MIC has envisioned to create and network such Institution’s Innovation Council (IICs) across selected HEIs to promote innovation in the Institution through multitudinous modes leading to an innovation promotion eco-system in these campuses

MISSION

  • To organise regular training programmes and interactive sessions with entrepreneurs, investors, professionals to create mentor pool for student innovators.

  • To create a dedicated institute’s innovation portal to highlight innovative projects developed by institutes faculty and students.
  • To organise Hackathons, Idea competition, mini challenges involving industry.
  • To provide preincubation and incubation facility at institute’s Incubation Centre.

OBJECTIVES

  • To establish institutional mechanisms, processes and guidelines to generate knowledge, intellectual properties and innovations from institute and commercialization of innovations through technology transfer, technology licensing and startups etc.
  • To Develop a critical mass of motivated students & faculties with creative potential, and entrepreneurial orientation & skill set
  • To build and strengthen the in-house mentor pool and human resource capacity to drive campus I&E activities, identifying, handholding and guiding potential/early-stage entrepreneurs, student innovators at the Institute on regular basis.
  • To build infrastructure support and facilities to promote innovation & startup and enabling environment of easy access to resources within an outside the institute
  • To strengthen the intra and inter-institutional partnership and collaboration with ecosystem at different level and co-creation of new program interventions.

STARTUP POLICY 2020

1. Preamble:

The need to support idea incubation activities

In line with the recent trends in higher education in engineering and technology, P. A. College of Engineering (PACE), Mangalore encourages entrepreneurship among the Faculty and Students. PACE will directly and actively support the incubation of ideas of its Faculty and Students incubated at PACE Incubation centre. Some of these projects may be established based in part or in full on technologies or intellectual properties developed by the institute, or jointly with it in collaborative mode. PACE may also provide incubation support to external Start-ups with which Faculty or Students are associated as consultants or mentors. Such external Start-ups may sometimes license technology or intellectual property developed by PACE a priori. The commercialization of product or process developed at PACE through incubation will be beneficial to the Institute, Council and our nation.

2. Definitions:

  • PACE INCUBATION CENTRE: Incubation Centre of P. A. College of Engineering, Mangalore (PACE).
  • PACE Member(s) (Henceforth called MEMBER): Any permanent faculty, research scholars, students and alumni of PACE having live registration.
  • INSTITUTE’S INNOVATION COUNCIL: (Henceforth called COUNCIL): A unit for promoting and fostering Incubation of involving one or more PACE Members, by administering and implementing PACE policies on incubation.
  • INCUBATOR: A physical and/or virtual unit that extends various forms of support for incubation of idea and engages in specified relationships with them on behalf of PACE and/or COUNCIL.
  • INTERNAL START-UP (ISU): Idea of any faculty or student incubated by PACE Member(s).
  • EXTERNAL START-UP (ESU): A registered company promoted and invested in by PACE member(s) and/ or not located in PACE premises.
  • STARTUP: As per the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India notification vide No. 236 dated 11 April 2018, an entity shall be considered as a Start-up:

(a) Up to a period of seven years from the date of incorporation/registration, if it is incorporated as a private limited company (as defined in the Companies Act, 2013) or registered as a partnership firm (registered under section 59 of the Partnership Act, 1932) or a limited liability partnership (under the Limited Liability Partnership Act, 2008) in India. In the case of Start-up in the biotechnology sector, the period shall be up to ten years from the date of its incorporation/ registration. (b) Turnover of the entity for any of the financial years since incorporation/ registration has not exceeded INR 25 crores.

(b) Entity is working towards innovation, development or improvement of products or processes or services, or if it is a scalable business model with a high potential of employment generation or wealth creation. Provided that an entity formed by splitting up or reconstruction of an existing business shall not be considered a ‘Start-up’.

3. Type of Start-ups with PACE involvement

Council may be actively involved in pre-incubation and incubation of an idea promoted by one or more MEMBER, or by others. There are two types of

  • Member may promote a PACE Incubated ISU/EST (ISU).
  • Member may be involved with external ISU/EST (ESU).

4. Governance Structure of Institute’s Innovation Council (IIC)

Except the ex-officio members, the remaining members will serve for a period of up to three years, and can be re-appointed for further periods. The Executive Director, PACE will nominate the initial IIC, which will make subsequent appointments. In addition to its above members, the IIC may invite experts in finance, audit, IPR, and other such areas, to its meetings as needed. It may also constitute subcommittees including such outside experts for specific tasks when needed.

5. Start-up Eligibility:

ISU and ESU are eligible for start-up facility by PACE Incubation Centre provided its partners are from the following categories:

  • Students of PACE
  • Alumni of PACE.
  • Regular Faculty members of PACE (As per the institute norms)
  • Individuals partnering with regular faculty members/alumni of PACE.
  • As an ESU.

Further, following eligibility criteria are also mandatory:

  • Any person desirous of availing incubation facilities must fulfil the criteria mentioned in Point 2(viii) of this policy.
  • The companies promoted by Faculty members of PACE shall be governed by existing policy of PACE.

6. Council’s active support to ISU/EST

  • permission to use branding in the form of “Incubated by PACE”
  • advice pertaining to legal and commercial IPR transactions
  • office and operational space
  • permission to use laboratories, workshop facilities and equipment
  • logistics support
  • business management advice
  • networking support
  • mentoring
  • guidance on seed-fund from funding agencies, if possible
  • monitoring, as per the prevailing PACE norms pertaining to all the above.
  • COUNCIL’s active support will be provided nominally for a duration of three years from the date of formal approval. There may be a pre-incubation period of at most one year. However, on a case-by-case basis, the COUNCIL may decide to support a ISU/ESU for a maximum period of five years from the date of formal approval, if such support is warranted. The COUNCIL will govern multiple Incubators associated with different constituents of PACE. While each Incubator will have and enjoy the flexibility and independence it requires for success in the specific areas of its focus, the COUNCIL will ensure a uniform policy of governance.

7. Rules governing Intellectual Property (IP)

A MEMBER, while on duty or on leave, may be involved in the creation of IP either solely or in association with ISU/ESU. If such IP is created with the involvement of the MEMBER, then any contract between PACE and the ISU/ESU specifying the sharing rights for the IP will hold good. In the absence of such a contractual obligation, the prevailing PACE IPR Policy, rules and regulations shall serve as the reference in such a context. In case the MEMBER develops any IP while on leave at the ISU/ESU which leverages prior IP developed earlier at PACE, MEMBER must ensure the prior IP is properly licensed by the ISU/ESU as described below in Section 8.

8. Engagement Process

The MEMBER must begin his / her engagement with ISU/ESU by submitting a proposal through Head of his / her Department / Section to PRINCIPAL, who will determine the eligibility of the MEMBER to engage with ISU/ESU. After ascertaining eligibility, PRINCIPAL will forward the proposal to the COUNCIL. After the COUNCIL accepts the proposal, the MEMBER will be authorized to perform the actions necessary for pre-incubation or incubation, including registration of the Start-up, fund raising, team development, product/services development, consulting, market research and development, etc. Prior to embarking on these activities, an agreement must be signed between the concerned ISU/ESU and the COUNCIL to establish the mode and nature of involvement of the MEMBER in the ISU/ESU Such an agreement is necessary with ISU/ESU when:

  • its shares are given to the Member or the COUNCIL as compensation in part or in full for the Member’s contribution, and/or
  • PACE’s technology/IP is licensed to the ISU/ESU, which wishes to pay for the same in part or full in the form of shares.

As part of the agreement, the ISU/EST shall allot to COUNCIL a certain percentage of its shares, up to a maximum of 9.5%. The exact percentage of shares to be allotted and their dilution status will be negotiated based upon the estimated value of support / assistance provided by PACE, COUNCIL and the MEMBER to the ISU/ESU.

  • In addition, the ISU/ESU must also enter into an agreement with PACE through the Office of the Principal if the ISU/ESU intends to pay cash in part or in full to PACE for licensing IPR owned by PACE
  • the MEMBER provides consultancy to the ISU/EST or undertakes research-based consultancy as per IC&SR norms while on duty.

9.Modes of Member’s engagement with Start-ups (ISU/EST)

COUNCIL will negotiate with the ISU/EST the value of shares that the incubated ISU/EST will allot to COUNCIL at par value in lieu of PACE’s Incubation and other services provided. This share will be first negotiated with the ISU/EST before COUNCIL acquires shares through faculty / staff / student involvement (as discussed below).

COUNCIL’s total holding in ISU/EST at any time should not exceed 9.5% of the total allotted shares of the Start-up from all kinds of services provided, IP provided and the faculty-share (as discussed below). (A) Faculty / Staff involvement

  • Capital Investment: Faculty / Staff may be involved in the Start-up by providing capital investment alone in return for shares, with no other managerial, technical or mentorship involvement whatsoever. All shares thus allotted can be retained by the concerned Faculty / Staff, and the transaction is treated as a purely private commercial transaction of no concern to the institute. The member must declare this to PACE / COUNCIL, so as to avoid conflict of interest situations.
  • Sabbatical / EOL: Faculty / Staff MEMBER may avail of sabbatical / EOL as per the prevailing PACE leave rules and may work full time for the ISU/EST. If the compensation to the faculty / staff for this is through shares of the ISU/EST in part or in full, in lieu of cash payment, the MEMBER must declare the same to the COUNCIL.

No compensation is due to PACE as long as the involvement of the Member, for which the compensation was paid, completely ceases after the leave period. Member must not involve himself / herself in any capacity with the ISU/EST except as shareholder on re-joining PACE after sabbatical / EOL. In case, he / she is involved as a mentor, consultant or any other form other than a shareholder after sabbatical / EOL, rules applicable will be same as that of part-time.

Special Additional EOL:

In addition to the EOL normally allowed, a Faculty / Staff may be allowed additional EOL for a maximum period of 12 months for engaging with Start-ups. In such cases, the Start-up must compensate PACE or COUNCIL with an equivalent of 1.5 times the prevailing gross pro-rata salary of the Faculty / Staff for the duration of this period in the form of cash and / or shares. Again, the member must not involve himself / herself in any capacity with the ISU/EST except as shareholder on re-joining PACE after special EOL. In case, he / she is involved as a mentor or a consultant or any other from other than a shareholder after sabbatical / EOL, rules applicable will be same as that of part-time.

Part time:

A Faculty / Staff member is allowed to participate in a Start-up on a part time basis as per PACE consultancy norms with regard to the extent of time spent on such participation. The compensation to the Faculty / Staff member may be in cash for which PACE norms for consultancy projects will be applicable. Instead, a Faculty / Staff member is allowed to obtain shares of the Start-up ISU/EST as compensation for the engagement with the ISU/EST. In such a case, the Faculty / Staff member must apply for approval for engagement with the Start-up, and the ISU/EST must enter into an agreement with the COUNCIL. In such cases, up to 20% (faculty / staff will offer 20% of what they are offered and COUNCIL may choose to acquire less) of these shares as decided by the COUNCIL obtained shall be transferred to the COUNCIL, and the remaining to the Faculty / Staff. The total number of shares of the Start-up that COUNCIL obtains from all PACE faculty and staff members (as 20% shares) and all research scholars / students will however be capped to 5% of the total allotted shares of the Start-up. In case the faculty / staff have purchased the shares at par value or at some higher value, the COUNCIL will pay the corresponding amount for the shares transferred to it as per this clause.

(B) Students’ Involvement

Full time: A Research Scholar/Student may seek permission from PACE and VTU to take special leave for a semester if applicable, or an additional period for which formal permission is granted by PACE and VTU if applicable, to work for a Start-up on a fulltime basis. This may be treated as withdrawal under permission from PACE and VTU for the specified period for which such special leave is formally granted. The Student, on returning, has to satisfy all norms (including maximum duration norms of his/her respective programme of study) in order to earn a degree. If the Research Scholar / Student is compensated by the Start-up in the form of cash and/or shares he/she must assign to the COUNCIL up to 5% of the total cash/shares allotted to him/her (student will offer 5% of what they are offered and COUNCIL may choose to acquire less) by the Start-up, as decided by the COUNCIL. In case the scholar / student has purchased the shares at par value or at some higher value, COUNCIL will pay the corresponding amount for the shares transferred to it as per this clause.

Part time: A Research Scholar/Student can seek permission from PACE to work for a Start-up on a part time basis. The PACE part-time engagement norms in projects during a semester/vacation period will apply. If the Research Scholar/Student is compensated by the Start-up in the form of cash and/or shares he/she must assign to the COUNCIL up to 7.5% of the total cash/shares allotted (research scholar / student will offer 7.5% of what they are offered and COUNCIL may choose to acquire less) to him/her by the Start-up as decided by the COUNCIL, with a total cap from students /scholars / faculty of 5% of total allotted shares of the start-ups. In this case, the courses that he/she registers for will be regulated by the respective Faculty Advisor(s) or GTC or DC as applicable In case the research scholar / student have purchased the shares at par value or at some higher value, COUNCIL will pay the corresponding amount for the shares transferred to it as per this clause.

(C) Role of Member in Start-up

The MEMBER may play an executive role / non-executive role in a Start-up depending on whether they will be engaged fulltime or part-time. The MEMBER may be involved full time only after obtaining permission from the Institute for the appropriate type of leave. The part-time engagement will be as per existing IIT Madras consultancy norms. The MEMBER can take up an executive role only if they are engaged fulltime with the Start-up.

10. Conflict of Interest

When a MEMBER utilizes leave of absence (Sabbatical / EOL, or any applicable equivalent) for direct, active participation in an ISU/EST, it is obligatory that the concerned Head(s) of Department be informed at least three months in advance. Shorter notice needs to be specifically approved by the Head of Department. This is to ensure that the academic programmes of PACE are not affected.

It is essential that the MEMBER must avoid any conflict of interest between their roles in PACE and in the ISU/EST. This is particularly important if there are PACE resources in their control which are also sought by the Start-up with which they are involved. A similar situation arises if they are developing IPR in a research activity / project in PACE that is closely related to the IPR they may be developing when on leave and working in the Start-up. Another situation arises when the relative shareholding of the MEMBER and COUNCIL is sought to be changed by infusion of fresh capital in the Start-up by the MEMBER. While such a move could be a bona-fide move on the part of the MEMBER to support the Start-up, it could potentially have a mala-fide motive of changing the relative shareholding pattern prior to some anticipated upward evaluation and infusion of investment by other parties. Yet another potential conflict of interest arises when shares are allotted by a Start-up to a close relative (spouse, children, parents) of a MEMBER who is involved with the Start-up.

The COUNCIL will determine the potential areas/activities where there is conflict of interest in the case of each MEMBER who applies for approval for engaging with a Start-up, and arrive at an agreed upon methodology for ensuring transparency in decision making in respect of these activities/areas.

The COUNCIL may, if it chooses to, set up an - oversight committee of Faculty / Staff for specific relationships to ensure that conflicts of interest do not arise. The COUNCIL may also require the MEMBER to declare their financial interests, and those of their close relatives, in the Start-up, at the time of engagement, as well as whenever a change in such interests takes place due to additional investment in the Start-up, or payment / share allotment by the ISU/EST. In any case, every MEMBER involved with a Start-up must file a declaration periodically with the COUNCIL irrespective of whether there is a change in their financial interests in the Start-up or not. The required periodicity will be determined by the COUNCIL.

The COUNCIL reserves the right to obtain a third-party evaluation of the value of the Start-up’s shares before a MEMBER or their close relative(s) makes additional investments in the Start-up. Such an evaluation will be carried out in a reasonable time-frame. If the COUNCIL dreams it fit, it may choose to make an investment in the Start-up of its own at the same price applicable to the MEMBER and obtain shares for the corresponding amount. The COUNCIL reserves the right to make the acceptance by the Start-up of the additional investment by the MEMBER or their close relative(s) conditional on the acceptance of the corresponding additional investment by the COUNCIL. In case a member of the COUNCIL Governing Council has shares in a ISU/EST, the Governing Council will determine whether the said member should resign from the Council, in order to avoid potential conflict of interest, or only recuse himself / herself when matters pertaining to the Start-up with which he / she is involved are discussed.

11. Withdrawal of Support

PACE reserves the right to withdraw its support to any Start-up that it engages with, following a due process of notice. This may involve withdrawal of access to PACE’s facilities, and/or withdrawal of permission to MEMBER to engage further with the Start-up in any manner, though they and the COUNCIL can continue to hold the shares they already possess in the Start-up. It will also involve withdrawal of the status of the Start-up as an ISU/EST, from which point the Start-up will be required to desist from advertising itself as such thereafter. Should the need arise, the COUNCIL may also seek modifications to the agreement signed with the Start-up through an amendment, in order to protect PACE’s fair name and its interests.

12. Protection of PACE’s Fair Name

When a Start-up is designated as an ISU/EST, it is permitted to advertise itself as such wherever such advertisement is appropriate. However, such advertising carries with it the risk that in case the ISU/EST indulges in improper behaviour or dealings, PACE’s fair name will be tarnished by association with the ISU/EST. In order to protect itself from such risks, PACE, through the COUNCIL, may seek a seat on the Board of the ISU/EST, without liability, in order to ensure transparency in all its dealings. The COUNCIL may seek access to the un-audited and audited balance sheets of the ISU/EST. In certain cases, the COUNCIL may even seek visibility of payments above a specified value made by the ISU/EST, before such payments are made. All such requirements will be specified in the agreement that will be entered into by the COUNCIL with the ISU/EST.

Students Interaction Session with Infosys Representative

On 19th, February 2024, the IEEE Students Branch and Chapter, in collaboration with the Institute Innovation Council IIC, orchestrated a highly informative interactive session for 2nd Year and 3rd Year students of all branches of P.A. College of Engineering in the EduSat Hall in two slots. The session featured Certification Courses and other online material available on Infosys Springboard portal for P. A. College Students by Infosys Representative Ms. Aishwarya Rajeev. During her talk, she demonstrated the use of Springboard portal to become successful graduate from the College but also how to get triumphed in the rigorous interview process with training and certification from Infosys.

During the discussion, Ms. Aishwarya Rajeev generously shared uses and invaluable insights with the eager 2nd & 3rd Year students. She delved into the nuances of the Infosys interview preparation and Internship process, emphasizing the pivotal role of technical proficiency, adept problem-solving skills, and effective communication. The event not only provided students with practical tips of Certification for interview success but also served as a testament to the commitment of IEEE Student Branch, PACE and the IIC in fostering a bridge between academia and industry. On January 24, 2024, a water conservation session was organized by Social Connect and Responsibility Wing in collaboration with the Environment Cell, the Department of Civil Engineering, IEEE GRSS, IIC, and FORCE (Forum of Civil Engineering). The session aimed to raise awareness and instil a sense of responsibility among participants regarding water conservation.

Swathi from the 3rd semester CS extended a warm welcome and introduced the honourable guest to the gathering. The distinguished speaker, Dr. Palakshappa K, provided valuable insights into water conservation, covering topics such as sustainable practices, global water challenges, and the role of technology in water management. Following this, Prof. Jameela and Prof. Chethan led the students on a guided tour of the water treatment plant, offering a first-hand look at each stage of the water treatment process. Sustainable Solutions: Kitchen Waste Compost System Demonstration in Civil Engineering Department

The Environmental Cell, in association with FORCE, Students Forum of Department of Civil Engineering Showcased the "Kitchen Waste Compost System" on January 24, 2024. Mr. Chandrakant V Pujar highlighted solid waste management, demonstrating the conversion of kitchen waste into compost-a commendable effort promoting sustainable practices. Dr. Palakshappa K., HOD, explained the waste management process, emphasizing its transformation into resources. Prof. Jameela from the Environmental Cell coordinated the event, attended by faculty and third- and fifth-semester civil engineering students. EXPERT TALK ON PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT

ARTELLIGENCE, Students Forum of Department of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Engineering, in collaboration with IEEE Computer Intelligence Society (CIS) and IEEE Professional Communication Society (ProComm), under the aegis of Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) hosted an expert talk on Personality Development on January 13, 2024, in the Multipurpose Hall at 09:30 am. The event aimed to inspire AIML department students.

Ms. Nafeesa Mashitha, Business and Operational Analyst at TCS, Bangalore, was the distinguished speaker, sharing valuable insights. The event began with a prayer by Mr. Adil Siraju and a welcome address by Mr. Kayyoli Ziyan, both from the fifth semester AIML.

The Principal and Vice Principal addressed the gathering, expressing their views on organizing such events. The session featured lively interaction between participants and the speaker, who emphasized crucial qualities for individual development.

Mini Project Competition on Electronic Circuits by First Year Students

Electronics Circuits Project Exhibition and Competition, organized under the aegis of the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC), was hosted by the Ignited Mind of Electronics (IME) – the Student Forum of the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering. The event took place on January 13, 2024, from 10 AM to 12 AM at the ECE Department's Computer Lab. In collaboration with the First- Year Students Association (FESA) and IEEE Robotics & Automation Society, 31 teams from first year classes, participated, showcasing their projects. The "RC Combat" competition, organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and the Embed Club, unfolded at the PACE Auditorium. Commencing at 2:00 PM on January 18, 2024, the event showcased the RC car building and controlling prowess of second-year Computer Science Engineering students. The competition encompassed a Single Lane Drag Race, Track Race, and Car Sumo Combat, allowing participants to showcase their speed, control, and strategic abilities.

Post the riveting competitions, the prize distribution ceremony transpired on January 19, 2024. Empowering Fitness: A Comprehensive Physical Education Activities conducted as a part of National Youth Day

On January 11, 2024, the Physical Education Department in association with Institution Innovation Council (IIC) organised a diverse set of activities for the 3rd- semester BE students, of AI ML, BT, EC, ME & CV Departments, as a part of National Youth Day celebration. The day encompassed a general warm-up, specific activities, and cool-down exercises, aiming to enhance the overall physical fitness of the participants.

Morning Session (10:00 AM–10:30 AM): Began with a general warm-up session to prepare students physically, engaging activities, and emphasising skill development and teamwork. Following the activities, cool-down exercises were performed to promote flexibility and muscle recovery.

Physical Fitness Test (10:30 AM–12:30 PM): All students underwent a comprehensive physical fitness test, evaluating parameters such as endurance, strength, and flexibility. The results will be instrumental in tailoring future physical education programmes to address individual fitness needs.

Recreational Activities (2:00 PM–3:45 PM): The afternoon session featured recreational sports, fostering a spirit of friendly competition and leisure. Cricket, football, and throw-ball matches allowed students to unwind while staying physically active.

Conclusion: The day's programme concluded at 3:45 PM with the marking of attendance.

The program was initiated by Welcome/Introductory Remarks by Cabinet Secretary followed by Launch of Viksit Bharat @2047 Ideas Portal by Hon’ble PM. During the program, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi articulated the objectives of Viksit Bharat@2047, emphasizing the vision of a developed and empowered India. He underscored the nation's commitment to relentless efforts until the dream of a developed India becomes a reality. Recognizing the pivotal juncture in India's growth, the Prime Minister stressed the need for unwavering dedication, belief in India's destiny, and strong leadership. Swachhata Pakhwada- Swachhata Hi Seva(SHS) organised at P.A. College of Engineering

Swachhata Pakhwada-Swachhata Hi Sewa (SHS) 2023, a massive cleanliness drive was successfully organised at P. A. College of Engineering, Mangaluru on 1 st Oct, 2023 at 10 AM, as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the eve of his birth anniversary. The initiative was spearheaded by the Environment Cell, PACE NSS (National Service Scheme), IIC and IEEE WIE (Women in Engineering).

Prof. C.V Pujar, Professor in Charge, Environment Cell, welcomed the gathering and gave preamble of the program emphasizing the importance of cleanliness and environmental responsibility. Dr. Sharmila Kumari, Vice Principal and Faculty in Charge, WIE IEEE, led the attendees in reciting the swachhatha pledge highlighting the commitment to a cleaner and greener future. Prof. Zakir, Branch Counselor, PACE IEEE Student Branch Counselor, Prof. Laila Jaseela, Department of Biotechnology and Prof. Nandini, Department of Electronics Engineering were the other faculty members present. The heart of the event was the enthusiastic participation of 60+ students who actively engaged in cleaning the campus. They diligently collected plastic waste and other materials contributing to the cleanliness drive. The event received significant support from staff members including Dr. Iqbal, Physical Director, Prof. Ismail S., NSS coordinator, Prof. Wasim, Department of Humanities who actively participated in the initiatives. Dr. Ramis M. K, Principal, PACE delivered a motivating presidential address, inspiring everyone present to continue practicing cleanliness and environmental awareness beyond this event.

The swachhata pakhwada – swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2023 event was a resounding success , promoting the value of cleanliness and environmental responsibility among students and staff alike. The active participation and commitment displayed during the program reflect the dedication of the college towards creating a cleaner and healthier environment for all.

PACE Celebrates International Day of Democracy

International Day of Democracy was celebrated on September 15, 2023 to honour and reflect upon the principles of democracy that unite us as a global community in P.A College of Engineering (PACE). The program was hosted by Centre for Management Studies and Research (CMSR) in association with IEEE Society Women in Engineering (WIE) and Institute Innovation Council (IIC). The day was graced by the presence of Mr Sharfuddin, AGM- Campus-PAET, Dr. Ramis M.K, Principal-PACE, Dr. Sharmila Kumari, Vice Principal-PACE, Dr. Sayyad Ameen, Director CMSR, Heads of Various Departments and Postgraduate & Undergraduate Students.

Democracy is not just the right to vote, it is the right to live in dignity, was emphasized by the words of Dr. Sayyad Ameen, who stressed about the importance of casting our vote and up liftment of the principles of democracy.

Dr Ramis M.K, pondered his thought about average age of the citizen of the country and it’s voted representatives in the parliament. Ms. Fathima Thajsha student of 1st year MBA also shared the importance of democracy. Ms. Afeefa, representative of IEEE Women in Engineering Student Branch Affinity Group, read out the preamble.

To uplift the importance of the day of democracy, framed preamble, was presented to the Principal and AGM-Campus. The program was compered by Mohammed Shakir, student of first year MBA.

PACE Celebrates Chandrayan Mahotsav

The Chandrayaan Mahotsav was hosted by P. A. College of Engineering in collaboration with IEEE Societies, namely the Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society and Robotics and Automation Society, along with the Institutions Innovation Council (IIC). This was a significant celebration of India's achievement with Chandrayaan-3, under the aegis of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) under the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.

The event commenced with an inaugural speech by Mr. Puneet Kumar Mishra, Head of Satellite Antenna Characterization Test & Design Section at U R Rao Satellite Centre, Bengaluru. Mr. Mishra emphasized the success of Chandrayaan-3 in lunar exploration and encouraged students to actively participate in future space exploration endeavours.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. S. A. Khan, a former scientist at DRDO and a Professor at IIUM, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. During his address, Dr. Khan shared insights into his defence projects at DRDO and his collaboration with the former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

Dr. Ramis M.K., the Principal of the College of Engineering, presided over the event, symbolizing the importance of the occasion.

Mr. Ismail Shaffi, Head of the Physics Department and Coordinator of Co- scholastic Activities at PACE, welcomed the attendees, setting a warm tone for the event. Vice Principal Dr. Sharmila Kumari expressed gratitude in the vote of thanks.

The event also included a blessing from Mr. Shafeek, invoking the blessings of the almighty, and was efficiently compered by Prof. Fathimath Raihan.

The event garnered significant interest and participation, with students and staff from various institutions under PAET and PACE International Institutions, as well as neighbouring institutions, attending via live YouTube streaming.

Visit to Yenepoya Technology Incubator-Deralakatte, Mangaluru

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC-PACE) and Institute Innovation Council (IIC) P. A.College of Engineering in association with Yenepoya Medical College Deralakatte had organized a visit to Yenepoya Technology Incubation center on 14 th June 2023. The students from ECE, EEE, BT, CV and ME branches together around 74 visited the incubation center.

Mr. Aashith C, Design Engineer – Rapid Prototyping and his team coordinated the complete visit and handled sessions on “ Accelerators and Incubators “, Opportunities for students and faculty - Early Stage Startups for batches of 25 students each. The sessions mainly emphasized and encouraged the students to come up with the ideas which are novel (IP), revolutionary and marketable. It was followed by a demo on PCB Assembly and Fabrication, 3D Metal Printing and Rapid Prototyping.

Invited Talk on “Innovation for Today and Tomorrow” by Mr. Shazil Ahamed

An Expert talk was organised by the Department of Training and Placement in association with IIC under the aegis of ISTE on the topic “Innovation for Today & Tomorrow” on 16 th  June 2023 for selected students and faculty members. The talk was delivered by Mr. Shazil Ahamed, Associate Vice President at CollPoll with Mr, Nishanth Varshney AVP-CollPoll as a guest of honor.

The Principal Dr. Ramis M.K., gave an introductory remark, Mr. Shazil Ahamed, with his expertise and insights, provided valuable information and perspectives on the importance of innovation in contemporary and future contexts. His talk covered various aspects in Innovation Matrix including emerging trends, disruptive technologies, and the need for creative problem- solving. The talk delivered enriched the event and inspired attendees to think critically and creatively.

The entire event was successfully organized under the guidance and leadership of TPO- Prof. Mohammed Hussain, Dr. Maruthi Prashanth, ISTE-Coordinator. Mrs Heena Kausar, Training and placement executive delivered the welcome speech and Ms.Shabnaz, students of CSE mastered the ceremony. The expert talk received a positive response from the participants, who expressed their appreciation for the valuable insights and inspiration gained.

Interactive Session with Industrialists & Entrepreneurs

An interactive session with Industrialists & Entrepreneurs was organized by PACE NEXT Alumni Association in the presence of the Dr. Ramis M.K, Principal, on 3 rd June, 2023, at Hotel Empire, Koramangala, Bengaluru.

The session was attended by the college representatives, alumni, and various experts from industries and Entrepreneurs.

Following topics were discussed:

  • Discussion on CDAC Courses for consideration by VTU for the award of minor degree was done.
  • To set up a Centre of Excellence by Industry in the college was proposed.
  • Scope of non CS branches and strategy to improve was discussed.
  • Blended mode of study was proposed: Teaching technical courses for non CS students to upgrade the skills of students.
  • A proposal was raised to invite Experts from industry to the college and to deliver talks that will make students aware about what is expected from industry. A mail to be sent by PACE officials to the members present which will be positively attended. Mr. Faisal, CPOD Head PACE to coordinate the same.
  • Project: A special care shall be taken while finalizing the student’s projects. The projects shall be selected such that it is in-line with industry. The members will give inputs on the same while finalization of projects.
  • The concept of Business model, trans-disciplinary courses, pedagogical approaches and Professor of practice were discussed.
  • One pf the expert explained the importance of Learn-Unlearn-Relearn concept.
  • Importance of Internship for students, how to choose internship course, and how to provide internship was discussed briefly.
  • MIA-NGO came forward to arrange Internship/Hands on experience for students. They will be providing the list of who can provide internships on various fields. In this regard, a small team shall be made from the college to interact with MIA for planning and implementing the internship.
  • MIA coordinator requested the college representatives to visit their , on Tuesday evening, for further discussions and future planning.
  • An expert agreed to arrange a visit by college representatives to Manipal Banking Academy for a case study purpose.
  • An expert agreed to help the college to connect with Bosch.
  • One the expert urged the college representatives to implement faculty sensitization program.
  • A request to guide PACE faculty members was raised. Experts responded positively. They agreed to have program in online mode. This shall be planned & arranged by college.
  • Importance and impact of up skilling the faculty members by undergoing various courses were discussed.
  • A suggestion was put forth to have periodic meetings online/offline as and when required.

FDP on “Technology as an Enabler & Role of Faculty in Achieving the Institutional Goals”

A Faculty Development Program was organized by the Centre for Professional and Organizational Development (CPOD) in association with IIC under the aegis of ISTE on the topic “ Technology as an Enabler & Role of Faculty in Achieving the Institutional Goals” on 16th June 2023 for all the Teaching and Non-Teaching faculties of PACE. The talk was delivered by Mr. Shazil Ahamed, Associate Vice President at Coll Poll with Mr, Nishanth Varshney AVP-Coll Poll as a guest of honor.

The objective was to empower the faculties with the necessary knowledge and strategies to leverage technology effectively in their teaching and contribute to the overall success of the institution. The session also emphasized the importance of aligning technology integration with institutional goals and provided practical insights and strategies for faculty members to effectively leverage technology in their teaching practices.

Interactive session on “Emerging Careers in IT Sector”

P. A. College of Engineering in association with PACE-Next Alumni association, IIC and CSI organized an interactive session on “Emerging Careers in IT Sector” for third year students of Department of Computer Science and Engineering on May 19, 2023. Alumni resource persons for the event were Mr. Sameer Sayyed, second batch IS alumnus who is currently working as Senior Consultant at Cognizant, Toronto Canada and Mr. Aftab Ahmed, second batch EC alumnus who is Specialist in Security at Microsoft.

Mr Sameer. Sayyed and Mr Aftab Ahmed addressed 3rd year CS students and briefed various career opportunities in IT sector. Dr. Ramis M. K., Principal-PACE, Dr. Sharmila Kumari, Vice Principal-PACE, Prof. Hussain, HOD-ECE, Prof. Habeeb Ur Rahman, Coordinator-PACENEXT and Prof. Zakir, Branch Counsellor-IEEE Student Chapter, were present. The interactive session was very well appreciated by the students.

“Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Electronics Industry”

The Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC), Institution Innovation Council (IIC) & PACE-IEEE Students Branch, in association with PACE Alumni Association (PACE NEXT) and Ignited Minds of Electronics (IME) conducted an Interactive session with PACE alumni on "Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Electronics Industry" on 19th May, 2023. The resource person was Mr. Zakiulla, Founder & Director, GRAYLOGIX Embedded Software and Hardware solutions, Bangalore.

Prof. Mohammad Hussain, HOD, Electronics & Communication Engineering, PACE, introduced the resource person. The resource person, Mr. Zakiulla, shared his experience as an entrepreneur and explained about the sequence of process in IC manufacturing Industry. He also motivated the students by emphasising the scope and importance of Electronics & Communication Engineering in the present and future.

Prof. Mohammed Zakir and Prof. Litti Mathew coordinated the program. All the students of VI semester and staff members of Electronics & Communication Engineering participated in the programme.

Kunafa se Munafa-The Journey (Interactive Talk Session)

“Kunafa Se Munafa-the Journey”, an interactive session was organized by, P. A. College of Engineering, Mangalore in association with the Entrepreneur Development Cell (EDC – PACE), Institute Innovation Council (IIC-PACE) and Alumni Association (PACENext) on 16 th May, 2023 at 10:45am in PACE Multipurpose Hall. Mr. Zamzeer Ahamed & Mrs. Jameela Ruhi (Founder Kunafa World) were the chief guests of the session. The session witnessed the participation of more than 90 students along with faculties of various Departments. The resource person addressed the students about the importance, significance and skills about Entrepreneurship.

The Session commenced with the recitation of Holy Quran by Prof. Saifuddin, Dept. of CSE. Prof. Faisal, Head-CPOD, introduced the resource person and anchored the entire event. Prof. Mohammed Hafeez M.K., Coordinator-EDC, Prof. Habeeb Ur Rehman, Coordinator- PACENext (Alumni Association), Dr. Sayed Abdulhayan, Coordinator-IIC, were the staff coordinators of the event. This was followed by an interactive session with Mr. Zamzeer Ahamed and Mrs. Jamila Ruhi, where the students and faculty members inquisitively asked various queries regarding their journey to the Kunafa World. All the Queries were promptly answered by Mr. Zamzeer Ahamed and Mrs. Jameela Ruhi which encouraged and nurtured the entrepreneurship mindset of the student in their bussing careers.

Shark Tank series was explored by resource persons to explain about investment and fund raising for startups. Various instances in course of time from the entrepreneurship journey were explained as experiences by Resource person to audience. How to manage the personnel life with the corporate sector along with personality development achievement was discussed in interactive session.

Finally, the interactive session was concluded with the presidential remarks by the Dr. Ramis M.K., Principal-PACE.

Technical talk on Intellectual Property Rights

A Talk on “Intellectual Property Rights” was organized by the Institute Innovation Council (IIC), P. A. College of Engineering, Mangalore in association with the Centre for Excellence of Research and Incubation (CERI), on 6 th March, 2023. The workshop was held at E-Learning Centre, within the campus and the event witnessed the participation of more than 200 students.

The program started as per the schedule and Mr. Furqan Shaikh, student of CS, mastered the ceremony. Resource person, Dr.Sayed Abdulhayan delivered the inaugural address, emphasizing the need and scope of this workshop. He also urged all the participants to utilize this opportunity to get aware of Government funding and Schemes for Students.

  • E-KUMBH Scheme of AICTE to get free softcopy of Textbooks.

The session was followed by queries from interested students. The workshop was concluded after getting the feedback for further topics for future workshop session conduction.

PACE SPARK 2022: Idea Presentation for second year BE Students on 27 th July 2022

P.A College of Engineering Mangalore and Department of Training and Placement in association with ASCII and CSI conducted SPARK-22, a multi-disciplinary program for second year engineering students with four events such as Technical Workshops, Booths, Poster Making Competition and Project exhibition. Under Poster Making competition on a topic "I want to do my final year project on and why", Miss. Keerthana from Department of Biotechnology got first prize.  Under project exhibition the team of Miss. Minooha, Miss. Mehek and Miss. Fida of Department of Biotechnology got first prize. Mr. Rohit Pai, Delivery Manager, Infosys, Mangalore was the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker. He advised the students that by improving skill set is crucial to tap career opportunities around us.

PACE SRISTI 2022: State Level Engineering student Expo: 25 th , 26 th and 27 th July 2022

Students of the Department of Biotechnology, PACE, Mr. Abdul Salaam K. Mr. Brijesh K Suvarna, Mr. Mohammed Aman K.P and Mr. Ummer Farook K were selected for presentation of their innovation on bioplastic based beverage container at State level Project Expo, ‘SRISTI 2022’. This State Level Engineering student Expo was held on 25 th , 26 th and 27 th July 2022 at B.M.S College of Engineering, Bengaluru. The title of the student project is “Microbial Characteristics of Dried Coconut leaf straws coated with jack fruit mucilage”. The objective of the project was to replace the conventional plastic drinking straw with biodegradable straws made of agro waste. The project was selected as the best project for State level exhibition under financial assistance for final year student innovative project by Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum.

PACE NIRMAN 2022: Idea Presentation for third year BE Students on 22 th July 2022

PACE NIRMAN 2022, Mini Project competition and Expo was organized by ISTE PACE chapter in association of IEEE, IEI and CSI PACE chapter on 22 nd JULY 2022for all third year undergraduate engineering students. Students of Department of Biotechnology, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering exhibited total of 95 projects. The projects were evaluated by Dr Mohammed Ismail, Prof. Delsy Dsouza, Prof. Sayyed Saadullah, Dr Abdul Hayan, Prof. Mohammed Elyas, and Prof. Prashanth SP.

Biotechnology Ignition Grant (BIG) by BBC, Bangalore and IIT, Bombay on 20 th July 2022

Bangalore Bioinnovation Centre in association with IIT, Mumbai and Department of Biotechnology P.A College of Engineering has organized an online awareness session on BIG- Biotechnology Ignition Grant on 20 th July 2022. Dr Mary Mangaiyarkarasi, IP officer at Bangalore Bioinnovation Centre moderated the program. She has highlighted the facilities available at Bangalore Bioinnovation Centre for the potential innovators to get the infrastructural support that they need. Dr. Bratati Mukherjee from IIT-Bombay encouraged the students and faculty to come up with novel ideas of potential Start-up inclination which could be incubated at Society of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE), IIT-Bombay as BIG partner to reach the funding.

PACE KAUSHAL 2022: Idea Presentation for final year BE Students on 20 th June 2022

KAUSHAL 22, a project exhibition for final year engineering students were conducted under the banner of the ISTE PACE Chapter on 29th June 2022. Final Year students of all the branches exhibited their innovative and creative works. Students of Department of Biotechnology, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering exhibited total of 90 projects. The projects were evaluated by Mr. Mohammed Ashfaq Director, Sales and Marketing, Natura Biotechnol Pvt. Ltd. Bengaluru, Prof. Ahamed Shafeeq BM, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer science and Engineering, MIT Manipal, Prof. John Prakash Veigas, Associate Professor Department of Information science and Engineering, AJ Institute of Technology, Er. Anil Vaman Baliga Manjeshwar, Consulting Civil Engineer at Manjeshwar Techno Traders Mangalore, Mr. Rizwan Roshan, Program Manager Cyient IT Park Bangalore, Mr. Mohammed Shakir, Assistant Executive Engineer, Mangalore City Corporation, and Dr. Deepak K B, Associate Professor, Department of mechanical Engineering, Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology, Puttur. Mr. Brijesh Balakrishnan, President of ITC Infotech as a chief guest of the function enlightened the students on current Industrial trends and job opportunities in the corporate world.

IDEA PITCHING AT KTECK AQUAMARINE IDEATHON AND HACKATHON 2022 on 22 nd June 2022.

Ms. Beebi Jazeel, Ms. Vaishnavi Amrith and Ms. Shivali Shetty participated and pitched their idea entitled “UV protective umbrella from squid waste” at KTECK aquathon ideathon and hackathon on 2022 at College of Fisheries, Mangaluru on 22 nd June 2022. The event was attended by 197 post graduate students, 65 UG students, 25 faculty members, 15 invitees, 12 keynote speakers. An interactive and plenary session was held with the panelist like Dr Ashwin Rai, Dr Anirban Chakravarthy, Dr Shivakumar Magada, Ms. Divya Hegde, Dr Rama Bhat and Mr Gowtham Nayak. The idea presented by Ms. Beebi Jazeel, Ms. Vaishnavi Amrith and Ms. Shivali Shetty were appreciated as a potential project for incubation.

INDUTRY VISIT: BIOTRENDZ 2022: Environmental day celebration on 4 th June 2022.

BIOTRENDZ 2022: ENVIRONMENT DAY, Environment day was celebrated on 4 th June 2022 by Biotech-PACE Forum, P. A. College of Engineering, Mangaluru in association with the Government Youth Hostel, Mysore, and Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, Mysore. Dr. Prasad, Manager of Youth Hostel highlighted the importance of preserving our environment and Mr. Ganeshan, Environment Officer, KSEB, Mysore addressed all the government initiatives and policies on preserving our environment. Total of 110 participants have registered for the program. At the end of the program students planted sapling in the hostel campus.

INDUTRY VISIT: BIOTRENDZ 2022: Career potentials in Invitro Fertilisation on 3 rd June 2022.

Pace-Nain Student Mentor Interaction: Biotrendz 2022, student interaction session program was conducted on 03 nd June 2022 by Biotech-PACE Forum, P. A. College of Engineering, Mangaluru in association with Dept. of Electronics, IT, BT and S&T, Govt. of Karnataka, K-tech Innovation Hub, Bangalore at Asia Pacific Institute of Embryology, Mysore. Dr. Suresh Kattera, Director, Asia Pacific Institute of Embryology, Mysore as a resource person demonstrated the techniques involved in human embryology. Total of 107 participants have registered for the program. At the end of the program students were able to operate advanced instruments used in invitro fertilization techniques.

College of Engineering, Mangaluru in association with Dept. of Electronics, IT, BT and S&T, Govt. of Karnataka, K-tech Innovation Hub, Bangalore. Dr. Sayyad Usman Taqui, Erasmas Mundus European Union Fellowship awardee, Lisbon, Portugal, as a resource person explained the Entrepreneurial potentials in membrane technology. Total of 111 participants have registered for the program. At the end of the program students were able to understand the concepts of entrepreneurial mindset and career management, comprehend aspects of higher education after Bachelor of Engineering able to understand the importance of PhD research work.

PACE-NAIN STUDENT INDUSTRY INTERACTION: BIOTRENDZ 2022 entitled “Instrumentation in Cell Biology and Genomics” on 1 st June 2022.

PACE-NAIN STUDENT TEACHER INTERACTION: BIOTRENDZ 2022, student awareness program was conducted on 01 st June 2022 by Biotech-PACE Forum, P. A. College of Engineering, Mangaluru in association with Dept. of Electronics, IT, BT and S&T, Govt. of Karnataka, K-tech Innovation Hub, Bangalore. Mr. Hashique Moidu T, Entrepreneur, BioTech Scientific and Technical Company, Saudi Arabia, as a resource person explained the recent trends in research and development, and Entrepreneurial potentials in Cell biology and Genomics. Total of 108 participants have registered for the program. At the end of the program students were able to acquaint with various market and career opportunity in cell biology and genomics.

PACE-NAIN STUDENT TEACHER INTERACTION: BIOTRENDZ 2022, student awareness program was conducted on 30 th May 2022 by Biotech-PACE Forum, P. A. College of Engineering, Mangaluru in association with Dept. of Electronics, IT, BT and S&T, Govt. of Karnataka, K-tech Innovation Hub, Bangalore. Dr. Shareefraju J. Ukkund, Assistant Professor in the Department of Nanotechnology, Srinivas Institute of Technology, Mangalore, Karnataka, India, as a resource person explained the entrepreneurial potentials in advance nanotechnology. Total of 105 participants have registered for the program. At the end of the program students were able to understand the synthesis of nanoparticles, and able to comprehend the interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary aspects of Nanotechnology.

At the end of the program students were able to understand to exploit traditional nanotechnology based practices in their innovation and comprehend the benefits of Nanotechnology in daily life after the session.

At the end of the program students were able to understand the career opportunities in the field of Biotechnology, comprehend the interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary aspects of Biotechnology, and to acquaint with various options for higher studies.

Dr. Krishna Prasad N, District Innovation Associate, NAIN Centre at P. A. College of Engineering, Karnataka, India, as a resource person explained on how student’s ideas can be incubated to minimum viable product. He highlighted the graduating students at the Institute to take up entrepreneurship after completing their graduate program. Total of 114 participants have registered for the program. At the end of the program students were able to identify nick area, generate potential idea, collaborate with others, and present technical and market solution to the identified area.

PACE-IDEATHON 2021: “How to write a project proposal” and “Smart Covid 19 Face Shield Ideathon” on 12th June 2021.

PACE-IDEATION 2021:“Innovation Potentials of Nanotechnology in Environmental Protection and Pollution sustainable future” on 5th June 2021.

PACE-ideation 2021, Student sensitisation programme was held on 5th June 2021 by Biotech-PACE Forum in association with Dept. of Electronics, IT, BT and S&T, Govt. of Karnataka, K-tech Innovation Hub, Bangalore and Biotech-PACE Forum, P. Entrepreneurship Development Programme: E-TEP BOOT CAMP” on 29th May 2021

Virtual E-STEP BOOTCAMP-2021, an Initiative of Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS), Department of Electronics, IT, BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka, was held at P.A. College of Engineering, Mangaluru on Saturday, May 29th. Virtual bootcamp is conducted across Karnataka at 21 locations and 13 districts, PACE, Mangaluru being the 10th location. Mr. Vishnu Nagaraj, Founder CEO, Carve Startup Labs, Bangalore, conducted the bootcamp. Students were encouraged towards ideation, product development and business model. Mr. Mohammed Ashfaque, Managing Director, Atelier Designs, Mangaluru who was also one of the Mentors, narrated his successful story of entrepreneurship journey and convinced the young minds to become entrepreneurs rather than job seekers. Department of Mechanical Engineering, in association with Entrepreneurship Club and ISTE PACE CHAPTER, PACE Mangalore, conducted a webinar entitled "Engineers as Entrepreneurs" on 11th July 2020. Mr. Mohammed Arif Hussain, CEO-Grand matrix LLX Dubai, interacted with the students on a topic “Engineers as Entrepreneurs’ citing live examples from the industry. A total of 133 members registered for the program, and there were 70 participants throughout the interactive session.

Student-industry webinar entitled “3D printing, additive Manufacturing and Digital manufacturing” on 26th June 2020

A Webinar on “3D Printing, Additive Manufacturing & Digital Manufacturing” was conducted by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, PACE Mangalore, on 26th June 2020. Mr. Kashif Khan, Systems Engineer, ideaForge, as an industry expert integrated with students on wonders and commercial viability of 3D printing, and its importance post – COVID era. A total of 99 members registered for the program and 60 participants were present throughout the session.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with ASME organized an interactive session on “READINESS FOR CORE ENGINEERING COMPANIES” by team of Industry Oriented Engineering and Solutions, Mysore on 13th Feb 2020. Mr. Varun, Industry Oriented Engineering and Solutions, Mysore, interacted with students on issues such as expectations of engineering industry, factors driving engineering industry, role of hand calculations, FEM&FEA in modern engineering applications, higher studies in India and abroad etc.

TECHNIX 2020 Feb 2020, AN ONLINE Intra-College Techfest held between 21st -23rd April 2020

The student forum ASCII , Department of Computer Science and Engineering, successfully organised an online Intra-College Techfest , TECHNIX-2020 from the 21st April to 23rd April, 2020 through different online platforms. Web Designing, Code War, Debugging, Quiz, Mock Placement, Caption Writing, Story Telling, Singing, Tongue Twister, Logo Designing, Creative Writing, Drawing, Meme Designing competition was held through the online website, technix2020.tk, which was designed by the young minds of PACE. There were 100 participants for all the events. Winners are awarded with cash prize and certificates.

Student-industry interactive session entitled “Recent Autotech Trends Shaping the World Today” on 15th October 2019

Automedics, a session on "Recent Autotech trends shaping the world today" was organized at PACE on 15th October 2019 by Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with VROOMIX, Autoclub @ PACE, and Candour Autotech Pvt. Ltd., Trivandrum. Students were trained on auto diagnosis training on Mercedes Benz GL and on BMW engine. Students interacted with industry expert, Mr. Shamnas, MD, Candour Autotech Pvt. Ltd. 250 students from various departments of PACE participated in the session.

Student-Industry interaction “INDUSTRY 4.0” on 14th May 2019

Interactive session on “INDUSTRY 4.0” was held in P A College of Engineering on 14th May 2019. The objective of the programme was to highlight the concepts, challenges and components of INDUSTRY 4.0. Students interacted with industry expert Mr. Habeebur Rahman on applications of Internet of Things (IOTs), big data analysis and Cloud Computing in smart manufacturing units.

Student Industry interaction “Robotics” on 9th April 2019

An interactive session was organised in P.A College of Engineering campus by Robotics Club in association with Microsoft on 09/04/2019. Mr. Sandeep Jetthani, an entrepreneur and cofounder of ATS solution highlighted the importance of acquiring advanced skill sets required in new age engineers and relevance of robotics in present day world. He has offered specialisation training and certification on introduction to raspberry pi3, basics of python and Later.

Pre-incubation programme: Outreach stake holders programme entitled “Problems in Dry waste segregation” on 20th January 2020

Awareness programme was conducted by our students on dry waste segregation in more than 50 houses spread across two Blocks of Balepuni Panchayath Yard on 20th Jan 2020. Students visited the houses and gave firsthand information of the health and environmental issues related to plastic disposed without recycling. Students also visited nursery school and created awareness using rhymes.

Discussion on implementation of Solid waste management at source was held in association with Balepuni Panchayath at Central Hall on 19th January 2020. Officials from Panchayath, Revenue, Health, Education, and Social and Women welfare department were present to implement the programme. It was decided to utilize the technical expertise and human resources from the Department of Biotechnology of PACE to implement this dream project first in two village blocks.

On 17th January 2020, our students in association with Balepuni Panchayath have taken initiatives to train the villagers of the Panchayath Yard to segregate the solid waste into dry waste and organic waste at source. Hands on training programme were organized to segregate the dry waste into more than 50 varieties of waste based on its commercial value at Solid waste management yard.

In association with the Balepuni Panchayath, creation of Model sustainable Village was initiated on 16th Jan 2020. As a part of this initiation, villagers were encouraged to use solar energy powered lamps and electrical appliance in their house. Dr. Krishna Prasad N, Head of the Department of Biotechnology inaugurated the programme by switching on the Solar Powered street lamp model in front of the villagers.

The “Fungicidal biofertilizer production and implementation” programme was done on 19th November 2019. The programme aims to reduce the use of inorganic fertilizer and fungicides that are detrimental to the environment, human health and aquatic organisms. Techniques of producing environmentally friendly “fungicidal biofertilizer” were developed in our department.

Second year students developed a technology to enrich the soil using solid state fermentation using goat manure and ground nut cake. On 13th November 2019, a field trial of the fertilizer thus obtained was conducted in the PACE campus. It was found that the laterite soil of the campus lacks fertility due to its lower base-exchanging capacity and deficiency of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium. The solid-state fermentation was done using the fungal flora and supplied to the wild saplings as fertilizers.

Orientation programme on “How to double the farmer’s income on agro waste” was organized at Nadupadavu Village on 4th October 2019. It was a knowledge imparting programme in which students revealed the consequences of using chemical fertilizers and pesticides at the initial stages of farming. They also highlighted the adverse effects of prolonged use of inorganic fertilizers on counter productivity of the plantations, pest resistance of the plants, and natural inhibitors of the plant pathogens.

As a resource person, Dr. Chandrasekhar Settee, Professor and Head, Department of Post Graduate Department of Physics, St. Aloysius College (Autonomous) Mangalore highlighted the importance of novelty, obviousness, leadership qualities, involvement, immersion, and risk taking to become a successful entrepreneur.

The Boot camp is conducted across Karnataka at 30 locations in 21 districts, PACE, Mangalore being the 11th location. Mr. Abram Toga, Associate, Marketing and Outreach, Startup Karnataka Bengaluru, Government of Karnataka was the resource person had moderated the Boot camp. Mr. Vishnu Negara, who is a Mentor and Startup Evangelist, assisted the students. The skills and the talents of the students were enriched by this programme.

P. A. College of Engineering, Mangalore in association with NAIN has organized One day workshop on “Pre-ideation” for budding entrepreneurs on 5th November 2018. Mohammed Asfaque, founder of the Atelier Designs Showroom in Mangalore, inaugurated the workshop and interacted with students on entrepreneurial opportunities in Biotechnology. The Department of Mechanical Engineering, organized an interactive session on “INDUSTRY TO ACADEMIA: a practical perspective” on 1stAugust 2018 at PPACE. Mr Akbar Arakkal an Industry Expert had face to face interaction with students on current industrial scenario and guided them in identifying issues of the industry. Interactive session on “FUTURE OF AUTOMATED FACTORY” was held on 17th May 2018 at P A College of Engineering. The objective of the programme is to make the students to understand the concepts of INDUSTRY 4.0, Challenges inherent in adopting an Industry 4.0 and its various components. Students have understood the importance of applications of Internet of Things in smart manufacturing, Big data analysis and Cloud Computing. “Project presentation- KAUSHAL” under the banner of ISTE – PACE Chapter was conducted on 22nd May 2017.Eminent jury members Dr Sharnappa, Dr Ranjith and Dr M.R Ramesh from National Institute of Technology, Surathkal evaluated various projects. P.A Polytechnic Student developed a low-cost automated dispenser under the project PACECARE 19, an initiative of Department of Mechanical Engineering

Muhammad Suhail a student at P.A. Polytechnic College, Mangaluru, has designed a low-cost automatic sanitiser dispenser, which can be installed easily in offices and public places for hand sanitation. It was a part of PACECARE 19, a project of PAET Institutions to fight COVID 19. The project is initiated by a Team headed by Dr Ramis M K, Department of Mechanical Engineering, P A College of Engineering. The dispenser sponsored by P.A. Educational Trust was supplied to two Mosques of Bhatkal.

P.A Polytechnic student developed touchless hand sanitizer variants

Mr. Ismail Raaz, Final Year Mechanical Diploma Student of P.A Polytechnic (PAPT), Mangalore, and his Team developed unique leg operated sanitizers. One variant is with the capacity to store bulk of the sanitizer was developed using used portable fan. Other variant was developed touchless sanitizer using electronic sensor and used water purifier. Dr Ramis M K, Department of Mechanical Engineering, P. A. College of Engineering (PACE) is the mentor of this dream project and was supported by Mr Abdul Samad Ullal.

WhatsCut Pro- A homegrown and more entertaining alternative app for Ticktok developed by P. A. College of Engineering alumni, becomes trend

WhatsCut Pro, a short video app, developed by a team of P. A. COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING (PACE) Alumni, has been trending in news lately. Following the ban of 59 Chinese mobile applications, including TikTok, over national security concerns by the Indian Government. WhatsCut Pro App, the brain child of the students while in the final year engineering, was launched in 2017 and currently has over 1.7 million+ downloads and more than 9 million stories shared on its platform. Co-founded by Sushin P V, Rizwan Sadath and Ramees P, alumni of Department of Computer Science, P.A College of Engineering, Mangalore of the Class of 2017 and Vikas Shrivastava, alumnus of SPJIMR, Mumbai.

P.A College of Engineering student developed world’s largest iron box and digital sanitizer

Mr. Mohammed Sehil while he was in the final year developed a world’s fastest heating iron box and has four patent application. He has also developed cooking machine that preserves fragile nutrients. This iron box can heat up to 154oC in just one second. Recently he has installed automatic sanitizer dispensing machine at various railway stations of Kerala.

PACE alumni and young entrepreneur Mohammed Asfaque, MD, Atelier Designs, Fr. Muller Road, Mangalore who established brand name Pranik for his Ayurveda product during post pandemic period. Pranik Health Solutions Private Limited is a corporate entity created and registered under the Companies Act 1956 and incorporated in 2017, with registered office based out of Bangalore, India. Pranik, developed a concept of complete health solution to improvise our lifestyle and drive away the health complication as naturally as possible.

Group of Alumni from PACE successfully established a Starup company Eventifier, online entrainment Company at Bangalore. Eventifier, which was founded by Jazeel Ferry (CEO), Nazeem Zishan (CTO) and Mohammed Saud (chief designer) in 2012, offers software solutions that are primarily used to consolidate, track & analyse content feed on social media platforms generated during a targeted social media campaign. The startup claims that it currently serves over 1,500 clients, with many blue chip companies like Pearson, UBM Tech, Clinton Foundation and NASA being part of its clientèle. BigTree Entertainment Ltd, the company that owns India’s largest online entertainment ticketing portal BookMyShow has acquired a majority stake in Bangalore-based social media analytics startup SpaceBound Web Labs Private Limited, which operates under the brand Eventifier for over $1 million (Rs 6.2 crore).
