International Workshop on Research Avenues in Computer Vision

On 21st December 2017, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, P A College of Engineering, Mangalore organized an International workshop on "Research Avenues in Computer Vision"

The Inauguration of the workshop was held at 10:30 AM in the Multi-purpose hall and the inaugural ceremony was presided by Honourable Principal Dr. Abdul Sharief. Other dignitaries present on the occasion are, Prof. Leonid Mestetskiy, Professor, Department of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics, Moscow State University, Moscow, RUSSIA, Dr. Archil I Maisuradze, Associate Professor, Department of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics, Moscow State University, Moscow, RUSSIA, Dr. B H Shekar, Professor, Department of Computer Science, Mangalore University, Prof. Surfaraz Hasim J, Director (Academics), and Dr. Sharmila Kumari, Coordinator of the workshop and HOD CS&E.

The keynote speech was delivered by Prof. Leonid Mestetskiy on "Continuous morphology for computer vision applications". He precisely describes the importance of Computational Geometry to represent image datasets and various applications such as biometric, gait recognition, fall detection, shape analysis etc. were discussed. Dr. Archil discussed the "Avenues for research in data mining areas" and explored the applications of Computational mathematics for many data analytics problems. Dr. B H Shekar has presented the "Role of local descriptors for computer vision applications" and also provided hands on experience on many state of the art computer vision applications using Matlab tool. 

It is found that the faculty/students shown enthusiasm and active role in the entire workshop and solved the assignments, and feedback was overwhelming. The concluding remarks were made by Dr. Sharmila Kumari by giving an overall idea of integrating project works as a part of research work. Dr. Palakshappa, HOD, Department of Civil Engineering proposed vote of thanks and Prof. Ganesh Pai was the Master of Ceremony.
